The Serpent
Mound of Mars!
by kksamurai
Approximate Mars coordinates are Lat 38 degrees, Lon 135 degrees.
I've actually forgotten the exact date I spotted this strange landform ... But if I recall the chronology of events correctly, it definitely happened some time after I found the now famous Face at Meridiani on Mars. And, upon searching deeper, according to my digital archives, the earliest dated and relevant image of this strange mound was downloaded on September 26, 1999 ...
Regardless of the date of the find, the first image that caught my attention was NASA MOC image number 50206a . An assembled and rectified version of 50206a is also available and known as SP250206. I'm also providing a slightly reduced version of the original image at this location.
When I first found this mound and posted it on the Red Planet Roundtable Discussion BBS, I called it Dragon Rider. There was immediate interest. A lot of viewers could see the dragon-like creature I was pointing to and noticed the other strange shapes and markings that could be seen all over this mound. Many people also thought the mound itself looked a lot like a Brahma Bull lying partly on its side. That in itself is a very interesting observation.
A closer study by the writer soon revealed even more interesting information. The image below was processed by me, from the original data. Please note the very strange shapes and markings all over this particular Martian Mound. If anything ever looked like a typical ancient terrestrial archaeological site to me, this sure did. I've never seen any mound on the earth or mars that looked more un-natural to me than this one ...
A slightly reduced version of the original
data for the above image is available here.
Does this look like a natural formation to you or does it look like something that has been sculpted?
If you look closer at the above image,
near the center, you'll see the rider I've often referred to,
sitting on a serpent or dragon .
The head of the dragon is immediately
left of the central crater in the mound. For obvious reasons,
I call the following colorized version
the Dragon Rider ...
A closer look at the South end of this
mound reveals even more strange details with
somewhat serpentine-like features being
the prominent theme ...
And as I've maintained for a number of
years now, this interesting comparison might also suggest
there is an ancient Meso-American connection
to Mars ...
I know it's a stretch... But look closely at the mound - does it look natural to you?
